In 2018, we began to communicate our purpose to help you follow your dreams to doing meaningful work. First, we partnered with Carla A. Fleming, CEO and Founder of Pivoting Strategies, LLC, to develop our unique value proposition and map out our journey—away from the often-meaningless work many of us struggle to do and into doing meaningful work. That path, which is like balancing on a tightrope high above a deep canyon, inspired us to rebrand our podcast The Tightrope with Dan Smolen. Carla also serves as our Chief Strategy Officer, expertly aligning your experience and needs with our brand.
Immediately, Carla and I set about creating a tagline for The Dan Smolen Experience brand that communicates the essential aspects of our journey together to meaningful work: Dream. Explore. Strategize. Act.
Next up, we partnered with the brilliant graphic designer Michael Brandt of J. Brandt Studio in San Diego. In a fortuitous getting-to-know-you session, we discovered that Michael was the doting father of a toddler who loves when [he] reads her bedtime stories. (He and his wife have since welcomed a second kiddo.)
Our discovery empowered us to challenge Michael on-the-spot, to channel his creativity to drive our visual storytelling. What resulted when we gave Michael the creative license to fully express himself were brilliant logo designs for The Dan Smolen Experience brand, but also The Tightrope with Dan Smolen podcast. We could not be more pleased.
Perhaps our biggest undertaking involved designing our new website, one that would help you to focus your journey to meaningful work, but also be the new home of our podcast, The Tightrope with Dan Smolen. An exhaustive search of website designers skilled in podcast hosting led us to the eminently talented Gresham Harkless, Jr., the creative force behind Blue 16 Media. A successful podcaster himself, Gresh immediately understood what we needed to achieve, a web presence that enables our audience members to access our site in a way that suits them best: some seek quick access to our content and value, while others prefer a more leisurely exploration. Gresh created a user experience par excellence that seamlessly relates our purpose and ever-expanding library of content.
What is more, we could not have launched our new website without the skill and talent of our copywriter extraordinaire Jeannine Curtin of Curtin Storytelling, who helped us to create a positive and reassuring experience for our meaningful work-seeking audience.
Our new website went live in late April 2019 and it is amazing! Do check it out.
Last, we launched our inaugural issue of The Dan Smolen Experience Newsletter, a resource that offers fresh insight to empower your journey to meaningful work. Immediately, you will discover that our stories follow the four themes expressed in our tagline: Dream. Explore. Strategize. Act.
As we take this journey together, we hope that you will share with us your own meaningful work successes and challenges.
